Fiswidgets Downloads
We are developing fiswidget graphical user interfaces for a number of public
domain neuroimaging analysis applications, so that researchers can more
easily access programs from different analysis packages via one unified
graphical environment (the Fiswidgets GlobalDesktop). Software developers
are invited and encouraged to write their own wrappers using fiswidgets,
if you would like to contribute them to the GlobalDesktop, we will be happy
to add them.
In order to use any of the following wrappers, you must
- First, install Java 1.4.1 on your computer.
You can go here to find links to download Java.
An important note: Do NOT use Kaffe Java at this time with Fiswidgets.
The reason is that Kaffe, which is part of the standard install on RedHat Linux, is not completely compatable with the current releases of Java.
Please go to the Kaffe homepage to learn more.
- Then, install the Fiswidgets base software (fiswidgets-system.jar, fiswidgets-all.jar)
- Lastly, for each package (eg AIR, AFNI) that you want to
incorporate in the fiswidgets GlobalDesktop, you must install the fiswidget
Java GUI frontend (eg air.jar or afni.jar) for that package
- you must separately download and do a regular install of each "backend"
package (eg compile it, or download binaries if they are available for your
platform) if the executables are not already on your system
- As an note for MacOSX users: If you are connecting to and running Fiswidgets on a remote machine, we do not recommend using OroborOSX or the X11 application that comes with OSX10.3.
There are issues with how Java GUIs are displayed. Instead, use an alternative program (e.g. XDarwin, XFree86) to do X11 forwarding.
Each package is treated as a "plugin" to the GlobalDesktop and is dealt with
independently.
Once a package is installed, the GlobalDesktop will be able to find it and
make it available.
All the fiswidgets Java software is available for download from this page.
To get everything, download fiswidgets-X.X.tar.
Where possible, we have provided copies or links for the backend C/C++ packages.
